We want to work with local growers to get surplus fresh produce out into our community. We will be piloting this scheme during the 2023 growing season, with the hopes of reducing food waste and sharing locally-grown, nutritious produce across the whole town. We will be accepting any and all fresh produce that has been grown on an allotment. The longer it will keep for, the better, but we do ask that produce has a couple of days’ life left in it past the collection time.
Collections may work slightly differently at each allotment, so please check with your site rep if you are unsure. Posters will be on display advising you where produce will be collected from, and when. Our wonderful volunteers will pick donations up and redistribute them to our community food projects.
We will be sharing produce between a whole range of local food projects. None of them make a profit – they are solely there to support our community to access affordable, healthy and sustainable food. There are some examples of projects below:
